Joeri Ruyssinck was born in Ghent, Belgium, on May 2, 1988. He received his M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from Ghent University in 2011. From August 2011 he was active as a PhD student in the IDLab research group  at Ghent University where he worked on using machine learning algorithms in the contect of biological network inference. During his PhD he also conducted research on machine learning techniques for use in the intensive care unit in collaboration with the Ghent University Hospital. Since 2016, Joeri's research focus has shifted towards more industrial applications of machine learning in the context of smart factories, non-intrusive load monitoring and anomaly detection in fleets of industrial machines. Since 2017, he is active as a post-doctoral researcher at the IDLab research group coordinating and executing several research projects in this field.
